And so it begins ...

have fun :D I had one from Caseking few weeks ago. It's a lot of fun, especially "the lab" from valve. The vive just becomes annoying after about 2h on the head. It's still a bit heavy. And make sure you have 3x3m space

Yeah this new VR stuff is a lot bigger and heavier then what was around in the 90's. Kind of funny if you ask me. I have the first gen I/O I-glasses and it ways about 10 ounces with the head tracking system on. I think its 6 or 7 ounces without the head tracker. Not only that but I can still see what's going on around me and it has 3d, it's amazing how ahead of there time they were. The newer I/O Glasses are just a set glasses with screens in them.

I tried some of the new stuff and I just don't get it. They're way off track if you ask me. I wonder if this is any better?

Mmhhh sudden BSOD in VR would be the creepiest thing on this planet. Better keep defibrillator at easy reach.

Small update

Currently sporting only a GeForce GTX 780 Ti, which is a bit on the edge for proper VR. Christian is also giving it a shot and of course we need some VR Mark loving ...

How is VR pRon? Any good?

Sure, just make sure to have a 1080 for each eye. No need to get nauseous rocking anything less.

I got mine like 3 weeks ago, it's pretty amazing the first two days, later it's kinda boring ...the lab is great, also portal stories. My wife loves tilt bursh.

But for gaming, I don't know ... it's too much for me. Unless Half Life 3 for VR is released LOL !

What does it take system wise to maintain 90 FPS for VR? If it is possible, a co-worker asked me about building him a system for it.

980 Ti or 1080 should be the best

Depends on the game too. If he wants to play new games then yeah you need some real power like a 1080, but anything older and any goid modern gaming system will do. There is a big difference with a game like dirt 3 and newer games with much higher requirements.

Basically at lest duble what you need from the gpu end or that's always been my thoughts.

He's currently on X58 platform, any issues using that?

Is SLI/CF working with VR or only single GPU?

X58 systems still pack a good punch. If he has a faster 1366 system with an overclock and good gpu he should be fine for most games. Cpu demanding games might be slow. He could get a 6 core Xeon for cheap if he needs more power. Id want 6 or 12gb of ram too.

Hey PJ :)

You went for Vive?

I got Oculus DK2 few years back and Oculus CV1 last year, today I got the Touch controllers.

none touch best experience so far is Assetto Corsa, Nurburgring in a Porsche GT3

- Custom Cup Seat

- Thrusmaster T500 RS wheel

- Thrustmaster Gear stick

- ButtKick Sim attached to bottom of chair: rumble baby!

Hands in game align correctly with real hands on wheel, so immersion is top :)

@jmke!! It's been such a long time, how have you been?

We had the Vive around in the office for a bit, but frankly didn't continue with it that much. The VR experience has been "nice", but nothing mind-blowing.

Do you have a video of your system?

Honestly in my opinion most if not all VR headsets alone are cool but rather boring. But I only used older sets and have yet to try out anything modern.

Its when you combined a driving/flight sim setup or a empty room full of motion sensors that VR makes since.

Just think of playing CC:S with a wireless VR set, room full of motion sensors , toy gun and that funky pain vest... Should be fun if you have a map scaled to the size of the room.
